GBA Appreciates UPA Govt. for not bowing before Anna’s Lokbill Draft

New Delhi, India: June 22, 2011 – IR Summary/GBA -   The proposed lokpal bill has developed wide differences not only between the Anna Hazare group but also among the UPA allies, some of whom want PM to be brought under the Lokpal ambit. DMK also wants PM to be brought under the stick of the Lokpal Bill, may be due to personal reasons, or the present circumstances which might have displeased Party Chief M Karunanidhi.

Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist, and Lead Man of God Believers Association, an NGO which promotes the human rights and also justice apart from other international social issues, told the GBA members during his briefing on Lokpal Bill:

“The govt. should hold strict stand not to include Prime Minister, higher judiciary, conduct of MPs in floor of Parliament,merging investigative wings of the CBI and Central Vigilance Commission and selection and removal of Lokpal. These issues must not be included in the Lokpal bill in the larger interest of the democracy.

Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist added: "The opposition political parties should also keep the prestige of the country higher than defaming it through any bill that can lower the standard of our honesty.”

He added: “If Anna Hazare wants India to become a land of Satya Yug, perhaps it is not possible. Certain things can’t improve with a jerk like Lokpal Bill, but with proper steps, particularly in a democracy to improve the standard of the people and their thinking.”

Dr. Raj further said, “The govt. must take proper precautions to see that India is not labeled as a country of corruption and such propaganda as has come through Mr. Anna Hazare, should not have been encouraged on the scale as done by the Govt., it is really deplorable. However, the govt. should save the prestige of the country and its reputation of honesty as much as they can.”

Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist said, “This episode of Lokpal Bill between the Govt. and Mr. Anna Hazzre has not added any prestige to our country. As a result many countries might like to discourage their business houses to do their trading with India if the prestige of the country is lowered in this downward manner.”

Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist feels that Lokpal Bill stands strong chances to create more corruption than eradicating it, where is the guarantee of its not being misused?
“It would have been much better if a normal bill were passed rather than under the pressure of a third platform led by Mr. Anna Hazare.”

GBA President said, “The govt. has, however, taken a wise step by not bowing before Anna Hazare’s draft, however stronger pressure; the Government should view the matter from all angles and if criticism comes to them from the civil society, it does not matter. Let it be decided by all political parties.”

“Let the draft be circulated, suggestions entertained, and placed before the Cabinet, who should finalize it and then send it to Parliament to introduce it in the Moonsoon Session and this shall be the most idea step,” GBA President said.

He added, “When there was a merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, we had opposed but the govt. did not listen, we had pointed out the serious discrepancies and future problems which the airlines could face, none listened to us, now you see the results.

GBA President said, “This time the govt. looks to have done a good thing not to agree to include PM, High Judiciary, merger of investigating agencies, and the conduct of MPs in floor of Parliament in their draft, Mr. Sibal is doing his job to the best of his intelligence and farsightedness, which the GBA appreciates.”

The UPA ally DMK of course seems to be creating some trouble for the Govt. but it happens in the coalition; DMK’s attitude is natural since the favor they expected is denied to them concerning the 2G spectrum scam. The Party Chief M Karunanidhi, who was in the capital, skipped Tuesday's UPA meeting for apparent reasons.
